Alaybeyli can be explored through its specific details: Eski Camii tells the story of architectural changes, while Seten Taşı represents a traditional way of preparing food. The stream areas and the redesigned square offer insights into municipal changes; traditional recipes provide a culinary perspective. Together, these offer various starting points for choosing the character of your stay according to your interests.

Eski Camii and Seten Taşı

According to a description documented in the Ottoman Archives, Alaybeyli Eski Camii was converted from a mescit into a mosque in 1808 by the addition of a pulpit. Its minaret was added in 1878. Restoration projects are also part of the building’s history: in 2024, it was reported that preparing projects for Talas-Alaybeyli Mosque was among the works for which Kayseri Metropolitan Municipality received the “Süreklilik Ödülü” from the Association of Historical Towns.

Seten Taşı in Alaybeyli’s village square is a traditional mill whose grinding mechanism was powered by people and animals. Döğme was prepared there. Alongside the mosque’s architectural history, this offers another form of local tradition: a specific device and its former use in food preparation.

Stream, Square and Mışkır

A stream that runs through Alaybeyli was restored in cooperation between the State Hydraulic Works (DSİ) and Talas Municipality. The municipality reported on this in November 2024. A dry streambed at Mışkır was also restored and water was returned to it; saplings were planted during the work. The Mışkır area was transformed into a recreational area. A pilaf festival was held there on May 7, 2022.

The redesign of Alaybeyli Square covered 4,000 square metres. As part of the project, the connecting roads were paved with hot asphalt. Together with the work on the stream areas, this gives a picture of municipal changes in different locations. The facts encompass both landscaping work and the design of a square and its connecting roads.

Community and Traditional Dishes

Alaybeyli’s social facility was completed in March 2024 and opened for community use. It is intended for events held by residents of the neighbourhood, including weddings, engagement celebrations, funerals and send-offs for soldiers.

The recipes described also offer specific insights into the cuisine. Köylü Pilavı is prepared with fine bulgur, onion, tomato paste, salt, black pepper, red pepper and potatoes. Patatesli Mantı consists of dough filled with mashed potatoes, onions and red pepper. The pieces of dough are folded into triangles, boiled and served with butter. Kete is made from yeast dough filled with toasted flour and baked in an oven or in the special oven called “Kapak.”

When looking for a holiday apartment in Alaybeyli, you can first consider which of these aspects of the area are of particular interest to you: the history of the mosque and Seten Taşı, the changes to the stream and square, or the dishes described here. This comparison can help you decide what you would like to focus on during your trip, without limiting the different topics to a single kind of stay.
