Ahmetbeyli Village offers a tangible glimpse of communal tradition: an iftar was held here on June 3, 2019. In Reyhanlı District, archaeological sites and topics relating to birdlife add to the picture. This gives you a mix of local culture, traces of the past and nature observation to consider when planning your trip.

Community Life in Ahmetbeyli

That evening, the whole village took part in the communal iftar in Ahmetbeyli (Mastepe). The event was described as the third traditional program of its kind. Afterward, the evening prayer was performed at the mosque. The sequence of breaking the fast together and praying makes this evening a tangible example of local tradition.

Archaeological Traces in Reyhanlı District

At Tel Aççana are the remains of two palaces dating from the 5th century BC; 17 settlement layers have also been documented there. Excavations at Tainat uncovered a Hittite palace and a temple. Objects found there are displayed at the Hatay Archaeological Museum. The two sites offer different points of interest: Tel Aççana draws attention to palace remains and settlement layers, while Tainat combines excavated structures with finds displayed in a museum. Check current access and exhibition details before visiting.

Tel Cudeyde and Çataltepe are also part of the district’s archaeological history. Excavations at both sites in 1930 and 1948 uncovered remains and finds from prehistoric times and the Hittite period. The regional story therefore encompasses both monumental structures, such as palaces and temples, and finds attributed to different historical periods.

Picnic Spots and Birdlife

İmma is an ancient settlement near Reyhanlı on the Antakya–Cilvegözü road and is used as a picnic area. Yenişehir Lake in Reyhanlı District is also considered a picnic destination; it is associated with a special view and a peaceful atmosphere. The two places offer different points of interest: at İmma, an ancient settlement meets present-day picnic use, while the lake is valued for its views and tranquility.

The Reyhanlı Barajı wetland, also known as Amik Bird Paradise, adds birdlife to these landscape attractions. A total of 161 bird species have been recorded in the wetland. The seasons shape what you might see: in spring, migratory birds find places to rest and feed there; in September, hundreds of Dalmatian pelicans were observed feeding as they continued their migration to Africa. Sightings are not guaranteed.
