Yazır tells its story in several distinct places: a höyük in the town centre has a settlement history stretching from the Early Bronze Age to the Roman period. East of the town lies an ancient settlement at Mevkii Gülman; the Keklicek Sarnıcı, in turn, is a water structure dating from the Ottoman period. The cemetery and historic well complete the picture. If you are looking for a holiday rental in Yazır for your trip, the town’s history offers a concrete starting point for weighing up your interests and the location of your accommodation.

From the Höyük to the Roman settlement

Yazır Höyük lies in the town centre on a flat plain at an altitude of around 900 metres above sea level. Its settlement period spans from the Early Bronze Age to the Roman period. Since 1990, the höyük has been protected as a first-degree archaeological site. This brings together two important points of reference: its long chronology and its designated protection status. For those interested in history, the höyük is a good starting point for distinguishing between Yazır’s different historic sites.

Another ancient settlement is located at Mevkii Gülman, east of Yazır on the edge of the Antalya–Korkuteli road. It was founded during the Roman period, in the 2nd or 3rd century AD, as a tower-like settlement. In 2003, it was designated and protected as a first-degree archaeological site. These details refer to the site at Gülman; the höyük has its own protection status, in effect since 1990. This makes it easy to distinguish the two settlements by their locations and differing dates.

The Keklicek Sarnıcı and its design

The Keklicek Sarnıcı is located at Mevkii Keklicek, 100 metres south of the Antalya–Korkuteli road. It is one of the water structures along the Korkuteli Göç Yolları, the Uluyol. The cistern was built in 1917 during the Ottoman period. Its design is notably varied: it is octagonal on the outside and built of dressed and rubble stone, while its interior is circular. A vault and a round dome cover the interior; the surfaces are plastered with concrete.

The northern entrance is also described in detail: it is rectangular, vaulted and designed with a triangular pediment. There is an inscription on the structure. A stone staircase leads inside, which is clean and well maintained and continues to be used for water. For anyone interested in historic architectural forms, the cistern offers not only a date but also specific architectural features and continued use as a water structure. Its location south of the road and its association with the Uluyol also provide a precise geographical reference.

Cemetery and historic well

Korkuteli Yenice Cemetery is located at Mevkii Yenice on the old Antalya–Korkuteli road. It lies 120 metres southeast of Küçük Yenice Hanı. A gravestone in the cemetery is attributed to İbrahim Paşa, who died in 1814. The wording of the attribution matters: the gravestone is associated with İbrahim Paşa, who died in the year stated.

Another historic site is Mevkii Büngüş in Yazır Mahallesi. A decision was made there to register a historic water well as an immovable cultural asset worthy of protection. Together with the cistern, the well points to water structures in Yazır; the sites and their respective details should be considered separately.

Choose Yazır as a holiday destination

The sites described have different focuses: the höyük and the settlement at Gülman represent ancient habitation, the cistern Ottoman construction and water use, and the cemetery a historic gravestone attribution. When choosing your accommodation, you can consider which of these themes you would like to shape your stay. The historic sites are located in different Mevkii; when searching for a holiday rental, therefore, focus on Yazır as your destination and choose accommodation to suit your personal interests.
