The Döşemealtı carpet and Merkez Cami give Döşemealtı two distinct cultural features: a regional craft tradition and a mosque concept that arranges key architectural elements chronologically. The area also has walking paths in Merkez Park and historic caravanserais. These different themes offer ideas for planning your stay around your own interests.

Carpet Tradition and Mosque Concept

The Döşemealtı carpet is woven by hand on looms typical of the region. The method of production is therefore as much a part of this tradition as the finished textile. The oldest surviving Döşemealtı carpet is of the Halelli type and is now displayed at the Antalya Museum. This makes it possible to explore the subject through both local weaving techniques and a specific surviving example.

At Merkez Cami in Döşemealtı, a complex originally planned as Merkez Cami was transformed into a mosque with a museum concept. Replicas of key architectural elements from the Süleymaniye Mosque, Hagia Sophia, Edirne Selimiye Mosque, Bursa Ulu Mosque and Yeşil Mosque were presented in chronological order. The focus is therefore on selected architectural elements and their chronological arrangement, not on reproductions of the complete buildings. This creates a different cultural focus from the carpet: here, the subject is architectural models and their sequence, while the carpet represents a craft tradition.

Walking Paths and Exercise

Merkez Park covers around 8,000 square metres and has walking paths, shaded seating areas and ornamental ponds. This gives it a different focus from architecture: paths, places to sit and ponds define the park. Park features may change, so check the current conditions before visiting.

A cycle path has been completed on Şehit Mustafa Gürcan Caddesi in the centre of Döşemealtı district. If you would like to include it in your current route planning, check its course in advance.

Caravanserais with Different Statuses

Kırkgöz Han, in the Bıyıklı neighbourhood of Döşemealtı, has been used as a tourist facility since its restoration was completed in 2009. Check the current operating conditions before visiting. Evdirhan is a caravanserai built in 1219 by the Seljuk sultan İ. İzzeddin Keykavus in Döşemealtı district, near Yeşilbayır. The building is currently unused and is being redeveloped. The two caravanserais therefore offer different historical points of interest and also have different current statuses.

Theatre as a Historic Itinerary Highlight

In 2018, the Döşemealtı Municipality People's Theatre performed its plays in the 350-seat hall of the Yeşilpark Cultural Centre. If you would like to include theatre in your travel plans, check the current event schedule.

When looking for a holiday rental in Döşemealtı, you can weigh these themes according to your travel interests: crafts and architecture, walking paths in the park, or historic buildings.
