Demirtaş combines coastal nature, historic architecture, archaeological traces and landscapes of the inner Taurus Mountains. Each theme has its own points of interest: the beach, Sedre Köşkü, Demirtaş Çayı and the road to the yaylas. If you plan vacation days around several interests, you can turn this contrast into a varied itinerary—with culture and nature in the area or a drive into the mountain landscape.

Coastal nature and protected areas

The beach at Demirtaş is home to habitats of the sea daffodil and the loggerhead sea turtle (Caretta caretta). The coast is therefore not just a place by the water, but also a habitat that shapes the destination’s natural character. In addition, areas in Demirtaş fall within the boundaries of a protected area with “3rd Degree Natural Site” status. Beach habitats and protected areas are two distinct aspects of the nature around the town.

Sedre Köşkü and its history

Sedre Köşkü is located in the Demirtaş Mahallesi neighborhood. It is dated to the end of the Seljuk period and the beginning of the Beylik period—a classification that places the building in a historical period of transition. Sedre Av Köşkü has permanent exhibitions on hunting culture, hunting culture in Alanya and the mansion’s architecture. The exhibition themes thus connect cultural history with the building itself. If you plan a visit, check visiting arrangements in advance.

Ancient traces near Demirtaş

Near Demirtaş, the ruins of Marassos (Büyükpınar) lie at Asartepe, on two elevations at an altitude of 670 m. An inscription indicates that the city had been inhabited since the Hellenistic period. A spring lies southeast of the ancient city; there is also a wall with reliefs near a spring in this area. The elevation, inscription and wall with reliefs offer different points of reference for understanding the archaeological setting: its location, settlement history and the reliefs on the wall.

By Demirtaş Çayı and on the way to the yaylas

You can camp and fish with a rod on the banks of Demirtaş Çayı. Both activities are directly connected to the river and reflect a nature-oriented side of a stay here. The Çayı also features on the drive into the Taurus Mountains: from Demirtaş, yaylas in the inner Taurus are accessible via a gravel road. The scenic road passes through citrus groves, greenhouses, maquis and pine forests, and runs alongside Demirtaş Çayı in some places.

Near the yaylas, villages have simple country cafés and restaurants. This adds places to stop in a rural setting to the mountain scenery. When choosing your holiday apartment, it may help to consider the focus you want for your trip: the beach and river, historical and archaeological sites, or a drive to the yaylas. These different experiences can help you plan without requiring every vacation day to follow the same theme.
