Antalya brings the coast into the city center, set against a striking historical backdrop: in Kaleiçi, old buildings stand alongside a harbor now used as a modern marina. There are also museums, a beach in the harbor, and green coastal viewpoints. If you’re looking for a holiday apartment in Antalya, you can choose where to stay based on whether history and culture, a city beach experience, or trips to the surrounding area are the main focus of your visit.

Explore Kaleiçi on foot

Kaleiçi is accessible on foot, by city bus from the eastern and western sides of Antalya, or by private car. To help you find your way around the district, the Kaleiçi Culture and Tourism Map offers three self-guided routes: the Long Tour, the Roman-Byzantine Tour, and the Ottoman-Seljuk Tour. The different route names alone point to distinct historical themes. You can choose a route to suit your interests rather than trying to fit every stop into a single itinerary.

The history is also evident in individual buildings. Hadrian’s Gate was built in 130 AD in honor of Emperor Hadrian. The Yivli Minare Complex includes the Yivli Minaret and Yivli Mosque, as well as the Gıyaseddin Keyhüsrev Madrasa, the Seljuk Madrasa, the Mevlevihane, and the Zincirkıran and Nigar Hatun mausoleums. The minaret is 38 meters tall and decorated with dark blue tiles. Hıdırlık Tower dates from the 2nd century; its square lower section gives way to a cylindrical upper section. It stands 14 meters high. A cultural stay can therefore offer the chance to discover a variety of architectural styles and buildings, each with its own historical associations.

Museums and insights into different subjects

The Mevlevihane Museum focuses on information panels, displays, clothing, and objects related to the Mevlevi tradition. The Suna and İnan Kıraç Kaleiçi Museum offers a different perspective on culture: it is housed in two buildings in Antalya’s Kaleiçi district that are registered as protected cultural assets. The Antalya Toy Museum is located in the Kaleiçi marina. Around 3,000 toys from countries such as Germany, the United States, Russia, Japan, and Türkiye are displayed across ten sections in an area of about 650 m². The subject of toys gives families a shared point of interest, while the individual items in the collection can also be viewed from different cultural perspectives.

Those interested in the sea can explore a dedicated subject at the Antalya Marine Biology Museum in Antalya’s marina. Around 500 species of marine animals from Türkiye’s seas are on display; the museum presents the biological diversity of these seas in an entertaining and memorable way. A visit to the exhibition adds a look at marine life to the impressions of being by the water. The approximate number of species and their origin in Türkiye’s seas give the visit a clear thematic focus.

Harbor, sea, and coastal spaces

Kaleiçi Marina is a semicircular natural harbor established in the Hellenistic period. Its entrance is 110 meters wide. Today, the ancient harbor is used as a modern marina. Numerous excursion boats are moored in the Historic Marina south of Kaleiçi; they offer day trips to nearby cliffs and waterfalls. Mermerli Beach is in Kaleiçi Marina and offers a seaside swimming experience in Antalya city center. If you’d like to combine culture with time by the water, you can take these different experiences into account when choosing where to stay.

Karaalioğlu Park offers another side of Antalya for a stay surrounded by greenery. It covers 140,000 m². Three streets run parallel to the sea and end at three coastal viewing terraces. The park thus combines a large area with clearly defined viewpoints. In Kaleiçi, horseshoe-shaped inner and outer walls shape the landscape; about 3,000 houses with tiled roofs stand within the walls. These details make the district’s historic character as tangible as its individual monuments.

Ancient sites nearby

There are also destinations with ancient history beyond the city center. Perge is 18 kilometers east of Antalya city center. You can begin your exploration along the monumental fortification walls attributed to Alexander the Great. Termessos is 30 kilometers northwest of Antalya and is part of a national park, thanks to its natural beauty and historical remains. The two sites offer different points of interest: Perge can be explored through its fortification walls, while Termessos combines nature and historical remains as part of a national park. You can add destinations with their own distinctive character to your stay in Antalya.
