Göcek is a port town where the Mediterranean and the Aegean meet. A large bay, beaches and clear turquoise water shape the town. Göcek is also a starting point for numerous Blue Cruises aboard traditional gulets. When choosing your holiday rental, you might consider whether you would like to focus your stay on boat trips, local life, nature or regional cuisine.

Boat trips and islands

Boat trips to the surrounding bays and islands depart daily from Göcek’s pier. Public boat trips are also available, and boats can be hired privately for visits to the bays. There are also tours in Göcek that visit all twelve islands. These options differ in format: you can choose a public tour or hire a boat privately. Some agencies also offer sea kayaking and stand-up paddleboarding tours. The nearby Yassıca Islands offer opportunities for water sports and, in some places, hiking.

The nearby island of Göcek can also be reached by private boat or water taxi. There are six marinas in Göcek Bay: four on Göcek’s central bay and two in Göcek Büngüş Bay. If you are interested in the town’s maritime character, this offers another perspective on the port town, while boat trips focus on the surrounding bays and islands.

Town life and waterfront paths

Göcek’s town centre is easy to explore on foot, and has cafés and restaurants. A waterfront path with seating and landscaped outdoor areas adds to the options for spending time outside. Depending on what you feel like doing each day, you can spend time in the town centre or by the water without centring your stay on boat trips. Local markets offer handmade regional products and fresh vegetables, especially on Sundays.

The cuisine is also shaped by Aegean and Mediterranean traditions. Regional food culture includes fresh local ingredients, olive oil, a variety of spices and a wide range of vegetable products. Visiting the market and sampling the cuisine offer an insight into local produce and eating habits; if you are self-catering, this aspect of town life may be worth considering when choosing a holiday rental.

Nature and special discoveries

Göcek is located within the Fethiye-Göcek Special Environmental Protection Area. The endemic Göcek salamander (Lyciasalamandra fazilae) lives in the Fethiye-Göcek Special Environmental Protection Area. The endemic Sığla, or Günlük tree (Liquidambar orientalis), also grows in Göcek. These natural features offer a contrast to the bay’s maritime experiences and give your stay a distinctive landscape and biodiversity dimension.

As part of a scientific pilot project to transplant seagrass beds, areas of sea in the Gulf of Göcek have been designated as no-anchoring zones. In nearby Bedri Rahmi Bay, a fish-shaped rock painting depicts six animals. The bay and the artwork add a specific local discovery to the impressions of the town centre and the islands.
