Discover Emet: Thermal traditions and history
Accommodation in Emet
Emet brings together thermal traditions, historic buildings and nature destinations across the district. These attractions are in different locations: the thermal sites and buildings are in the town, while İkitaş Canyon is in the village of Eğrigöz. This offers different focuses for your trip—thermal waters, local history or activities in the surrounding area. If you are looking for a holiday apartment, it helps to first consider which focus will shape your stay.
Thermal traditions and water
On October 17, 1993, Emet was designated a Thermal Tourism Center by Council of Ministers Decision No. 93. This designation gives thermal tourism a clearly defined place in the town’s tourism profile. The thermal waters are described as sulfate-bearing, bicarbonate-bearing, calcium-bearing, magnesium-bearing, hyperthermal and hypotonic. In the municipality, the Emet thermal baths are used year-round by local and international visitors for health and recreation.
A description dated July 20, 2016, mentions three thermal baths in the town center. It also locates walking paths and parks in the Thermal Tourism area; at that time, an amphitheater was also in operation there. If you plan to include these facilities in your visit, check their current operating status and availability beforehand.
Buildings and local history
The mosques and the han reflect different periods. The Merkez-Ulu Mosque in Emet was built by the Ottomans in 1905. The central Babuk-Bey Mosque was registered as a protected cultural monument in 1991. The historic Emet Hanı, also known as Zeytinoğlu Hanı, served as the headquarters of Emet’s national division during the Turkish War of Independence; it was also registered as a protected cultural monument in 2014. The town’s history thus brings together a construction date, later heritage registrations and a historical function.
A specific event is also documented for a particular year: on September 3, 2023, Emet celebrated the September 3 Gazi Emet Liberation Festival and the Boron, Thermal and Tourism Festival with a program marking the 101st anniversary.
İkitaş Canyon and activities nearby
Another focus lies in the surrounding area: İkitaş Canyon is in the village of Eğrigöz in Emet District, not in the town center, and is seven kilometers long. A description dated September 2, 2020, mentions opportunities there for camping, hiking and photography. This brings together different interests: walking, photography and spending time outdoors. Conditions and facilities can change; check the latest information before visiting.
Consider your starting point and route
Emet District can be reached via Tavşanlı and via the Kütahya–Çavdarhisar route. Check the current route before setting out. Distinguishing between the town and the canyon elsewhere in the district can help you choose a starting point that suits your planned day.
