A specific connection to the yayla, a fountain complex south of the village, and distinctive landscapes in the municipality give Mecidiye several different facets. Karakısık Gorge and Karagöl appeal to different nature interests; historic transport routes, adobe houses, and a market complete the picture. When looking for a holiday rental, consider whether Mecidiye itself is the location you want, or whether you would also like to include nature and culture in the municipality in your plans.

Mecidiye and the fountains south of the village

In Mecidiye, a 2,341 m² plot lies at an elevation of 1,219 metres; it is described as an airy, highland meadow. The elevation gives you a specific point of reference when choosing a holiday location with a yayla character in mind.

Kurban Mesireliği, also known as Gurbet Çeşmesi, is located on a road one kilometre south of Mecidiye village. There are two fountains there, from which clean water flows continuously throughout the year. Check the current condition of the fountains before visiting.

Gorge, lake, and other landscapes

Karakısık Gorge is located in the municipality, northeast of İnceler and seven kilometres from the settlement. It lies in a forested area where the Emir Çayı rises. At its narrowest point, the gorge is four metres wide; the elevation difference from the gorge floor to its upper edge is 200 metres. Permeable sand covers the floor, and the sand layer ranges from five to 150 metres deep within the gorge. Its narrowness, height, and terrain give this landscape very different dimensions.

Karagöl lies southwest of Çambaşı village in a forested area. The small lake is fed by various springs as well as snowmelt and rainwater. This means two distinct natural attractions sit side by side in the municipality: the dramatic formations of Karakısık Gorge and a small forest lake fed by several water sources.

History and local highlights

Throughout history, Karakısık Gorge served as a passage between the area where İnceler was founded and the districts of Acıpayam and Tavas. Historic roads also ran through Bozkurt: the ancient Roman road from Ephesus to Pamphylia, and a Byzantine road from Konya, Beyşehir, and Eğirdir to Laodicea and Ayasuluk.

In the area around Hayrettin, a neighbourhood in Bozkurt district, the Ters-Lale grows naturally at elevations from 1,000 metres upwards. The seventh Ters-Lale Yayla Festival was held in Hayrettin in 2015. Along with the region’s landscapes, the plant and the festival’s historic date give it a cultural connection.

On a walk through Bozkurt, you can see adobe houses with blue-framed windows and doors that preserve traces of the past. A market selling fresh local produce is also held there on Fridays. If you plan to visit the market, check the current date in advance.
