Kaman between the Baran Mountains and walnut culture
Accommodation in Kaman
Kaman lies on the northern slopes of the 1,701-metre-high Baran Mountains. Its walnut culture, a Japanese Garden and several cultural sites give the destination a distinctive character. If you are looking for a holiday apartment, you can choose where to stay based on the experiences you want: in Kaman itself, near the garden complex in Çağırkan or for a day by the water. These places represent different sides of the destination—from local products and personal history to archaeology and seasonal beach activities.
Garden Complex and Water Activities
The Japanese Garden is located in the village of Çağırkan in Kaman District. The Japanese Near East Culture Centre created it in 1993 to commemorate the start of the Kalehöyük excavations by Prince Takahito Mikasa; it was also intended as a recreation area for the local population. The complex is described as the largest garden outside Japan. Its origins connect the history of the garden with the beginning of archaeological work in the region.
Savcılı Beach is 16 kilometres from Kaman. The public beach is three kilometres long and offers opportunities for water sports. Facilities are seasonal, and current offerings may change. If you are planning a beach day, check in advance which water sports are available on your travel dates. The two options cater to different interests: the history of the garden complex and water sports at the beach.
Archaeology and Local History
The Kalehöyük Archaeology Museum displays finds from excavations at Kaman Kalehöyük, Büklükale and Yassıhöyük. Visitors can also learn about how historical chronology is established. This connects specific archaeological sites with the question of how history is arranged chronologically. Dadaloğlu Cultural Park near Ziyarettepe offers a different kind of place of remembrance: it is home to the tomb of the folk poet Dadaloğlu, who died in Kaman. Here, the focus is on one person and their connection to Kaman rather than on archaeological interpretation.
Kaman Walnuts: Taste and Craftsmanship
The Kaman Walnut, Culture and Art Festival highlights the thin shell and distinctive flavour of Kaman walnuts as qualities of a local product. They have an important place in Turkey’s production of nuts in shells. Other parts of the plant are also put to use: the fruit and leaves are attributed with health benefits, while the wood has economic value. Dyes can be made from the roots and used in handmade carpets, where they retain their colour for a long time. The connection therefore extends from flavour and agriculture to the use of plant materials in crafts.
Choose Accommodation Based on Your Priorities
Ceviz Kafe opened at Çarşı Square in central Kaman on 5 September 2024. Ceviz Kafe 2 opened on 1 June 2025 in the Japanese Garden in Çağırkan and was set up as a seasonal resting place for garden visitors and guests from elsewhere. If you plan to visit either café, it is advisable to check its current opening status in advance.
When choosing a holiday apartment, start with what matters most to you: Kaman is a natural search term for the town centre. If the Japanese Garden is important to your plans, include Çağırkan when checking locations. Compare the accommodation’s exact location with the places you want to visit.
