Ko Pha-Ngan is a large island off the east coast of Surat Thani Province in the Gulf of Thailand. Waterfalls and mountains shape its natural attractions; Tong Nai Pan Yai Beach is also among the featured sights. This gives you different ways to focus your stay: nature spots, views or a visit to the beach. If you choose the island for your holiday, you can use your own interests as the starting point for planning your days together.

Nature spots and a specific route

A nature trail starts at Phaeng Waterfall and leads to the Domsila Viewpoint. The route is 2.5 kilometres long and takes one hour. This makes it a clearly defined outing, with a named starting point and destination as well as a stated duration. When planning your time on Ko Pha-Ngan, you can allow an hour for the trail and treat it as a separate activity.

Domsila Viewpoint is 500 metres from the national park. It is a lookout point and a place to watch sunsets. As well as its location, this gives the destination a specific reason to visit: you can consider going for the view or at sunset. Tan Sadet National Waterfall is another featured sight on the island. Together with the mountains and Phaeng Waterfall, it makes nature experiences an important possible focus for your trip.

Island, beach and connections

Along with waterfalls and mountains, Tong Nai Pan Yai offers a beach to visit on Ko Pha-Ngan. When planning your holiday, you can weigh up whether you mainly want to visit nature spots, enjoy a viewpoint or make the beach the focus of individual outings. These places offer different reasons to explore the island, without prescribing a particular order for your days.

Thongsala Passenger Pier offers connections to Surat Thani, Ko Samui and Ko Tao. The pier is also a useful point of reference for travellers interested in places beyond Ko Pha-Ngan. A ferry trip from Ko Pha-Ngan to Ko Tao is one way to see coral reefs and aquatic wildlife. If this appeals to you, you can consider it as a separate excursion alongside the nature spots on Ko Pha-Ngan.

Local cuisine and culture

Visitors can learn to cook Thai food from local residents. This is a different way to engage with the destination than visiting a waterfall or viewpoint: the focus here is on preparing local cuisine. When planning your stay, you can therefore consider adding a culinary experience alongside scenery and excursions.

The Royal Phangan Museum was intended to be established at Thongsala Pier on Ko Pha-Ngan as a place to learn about history. This planned role gives the museum project a cultural connection to the island’s history. Alongside nature and beach destinations, cooking and history are therefore other interests to consider for your trip.
