Water landscapes and historic sites shape the impressions Mueang Phichit District has to offer. At the old Bueng Si Fai swamp lake, nature, activity and relaxation come together; the area is also home to a temple complex, an old city and a museum. When planning your trip, you can therefore first decide whether to focus more on the waterside setting or on history and culture.

Bueng Si Fai: Water and Activity

Bueng Si Fai is located in Tambon Nai Mueang and is considered Thailand’s third-largest body of water. Srinagarindra Park Phichit is situated by the lake. It covers 170 rai: approximately 50 rai of land and 120 rai of water. This breakdown makes the different parts of the site clear without treating the lake and the park as one and the same.

The Saranjit Mongkol Suk Cycling Field is also located at Bueng Si Fai. It is a facility for sports tourism, public exercise and recreation. If you want to include some activity in your holiday, you will find a dedicated place to do so here; the lake is also one of the district’s most distinctive landscape features. The Chalerm Prakiat Aquarium is also located at Bueng Si Fai. It can be reached by private vehicle. When choosing a holiday rental, it may be helpful to decide in advance whether you want your stay to focus mainly on the waterside setting and active experiences, or on culture and history.

Phichit’s History at the Temple and Old City

Wat Tha Luang is located in Tambon Nai Mueang on the west bank of the Nan River. The temple was built in Buddhist year 2388, during the reign of King Rama III. One of its notable historical features is Luang Pho Phet, an old bronze Buddha image in the Chiang Saen style. It measures 1.40 metres across the lap and is 1.60 metres high. Its dimensions and style give the image a distinctive profile for anyone particularly interested in religious art and history.

Phichit Old City Park is located in Tambon Rong Chang and is considered the site of the old city of Phichit, which is believed to have been built around 1601. The park contains two rows of brick walls, as well as fortifications, storage buildings, moats, gates, watchtowers and old pagodas. The site brings different parts of a historic city into view: the walls and gates stand alongside the other structures mentioned. The Kanchanaguman Arboretum is also part of the park. It is shady and suitable for relaxation, offering a different focus within the historic area.

Museum and Local Life

The Phichit City Museum is housed in the former provincial administration building in Tambon Nai Mueang. It provides information about the way of life, traditional knowledge, ethnic groups, religions, beliefs, culture and traditions of the people of Phichit. The museum is open daily from 08:30 to 16:30. It complements the historic sites with insights into social and cultural topics. If you want to explore these themes further, you can also discover Nai Mueang, the tambon where Bueng Si Fai, Wat Tha Luang and the Phichit City Museum are located.

The Wang Krot longboat race offers another glimpse of life by the water. This long-standing tradition is connected to the community’s water-based way of life and takes place during the flood season. The old Wang Krot Market is located in Tambon Wang Krot on the Nan River; its daily opening hours are listed as 08:00 to 15:00. The aquarium at Bueng Si Fai is open Monday to Friday from 10:00 to 18:00 and on Sundays from 10:00 to 19:00. These details can help you plan the timing of visits to the museum, market and aquarium.
