Phangnga offers many different reasons to travel: sea turtles nest on the coast at Hat Thai Mueang, granite mountains and forests shape the inland landscape, and rock formations rise from the sea in the bay. There are also caves, historic sites and regional food culture. If you’re looking for a vacation rental in Phangnga, you can choose where to stay based on the experiences that matter most to you.

Coast, Forest and Distinctive Rock Formations

Khao Lampi–Hat Thai Mueang National Park encompasses both the coastal area of Hat Thai Mueang and the granite mountains of Khao Lampi, with evergreen forest and waterfalls. Hat Thai Mueang’s long sandy beach is a nesting area for four sea turtle species, including the leatherback turtle. The coast and mountain forest represent distinct landscapes within a single national park. Those particularly interested in sea turtles can focus on the beach, while those who enjoy forests and waterfalls can explore Khao Lampi as another aspect of the natural landscape.

Other places have their own appeal: Khao Na Yak is a beach with large, unusually shaped rock formations. The Samed Nangshe viewpoint offers views of the islands and limestone mountains in Phang Nga Bay. There are also campsites and accommodation for visitors who want to observe the night sky. This makes it possible to combine views of the bay with a stay that also takes in the night sky.

Islands, Caves and Nature Experiences

Phang Nga Bay National Park is characterized by a geological landscape of islets, underwater caves and rock formations rising vertically from the sea. In the Mu-Ko-Surin Islands, two main islands, Koh Surin Nuea and Koh Surin Tai, together with smaller surrounding islands, form a protected national park. North Surin Island and South Surin Island are known for their bays. Ao Mae Yai is one of them, a large bay with calm waters. The Mu-Ko-Surin Islands are considered destinations for diving and snorkeling because of their crystal-clear waters; Richelieu Rock is among the diving spots mentioned.

For a different kind of nature experience, Khlong Sang Ngae, also known as Little Amazon, offers boat trips through a forest landscape. Along the canal, visitors can see centuries-old banyan trees. Pung Chang Cave has stalactites, stalagmites and a stream that flows year-round. Visitors can explore Ruesi Sawan Cave, among other places, in Somdet Phra Sri Nakarin Park on Khao Chang Road. These experiences are quite different: the nature experiences range from boat trips through the forest to caves with stalactite formations.

History, Traditions and Local Cuisine

For those interested in culture, Khao Khian, also called Tham Khao Khian, is an archaeological site in Ao Phang Nga National Park. It features rock paintings more than 3,000 years old. In Phangnga town, the Phang Nga City Museum uses the former provincial administration building to host exhibitions on Phangnga’s history. Khao Chang, meanwhile, is the province’s landmark. Together, these places reflect different historical and regional connections, though they do not offer the same kind of visitor experience.

Food and handicrafts are also part of the region’s discoveries. The village restaurants in Ban Bang Phat serve seafood; there is also a traditional demonstration of shrimp paste making. In Takua Pa’s old town, the Walking Street offers local dishes and traditional sweets on Sundays. In the province, groups of women farmers make artificial flowers from rubber tree leaves. A seven-day turtle release festival in March includes the release of young turtles. When choosing your vacation rental, you can consider whether nature, history, regional cuisine or these kinds of traditions are the main focus of your trip.
