Thong Pha Phum District brings together striking landscapes with technical and cultural attractions. The Vajiralongkorn Dam holds back the Khwae Noi in the subdistrict of Tha Khanun; its reservoir extends across Thong Pha Phum and Sangkhla Buri districts. The dam, formerly called Khao Laem Dam, is Thailand’s first rockfill dam with a reinforced-concrete facing. The official directions for reaching the dam take you along Highway 323 and the Thong Pha Phum–Sangkhla Buri route.

Mountain Landscapes and Caves

Thong Pha Phum National Park lies partly within the district and is characterised by complex mountain ranges. Several streams originate in the park and flow into the Vajiralongkorn Reservoir and the Khwae Noi. The park is also home to a wide range of wildlife. Travellers who want to focus their trip on nature and wildlife will find a different emphasis here than at the district’s water-related and cultural attractions.

Another natural area is Lam Khlong Ngu National Park in Thong Pha Phum District. Its species-rich forests support a diverse range of plants and animals. One of the park’s distinctive features is the Pillar Cave: inside it stands a limestone column about 62.5 metres high, and a stream flows through the cave. A park guide should accompany every cave visit. Good physical fitness and equipment for hiking and wading are also required. These requirements are important to consider if you are planning to make cave visits a regular part of your trip.

Waterfalls and Nature Trails

Activities such as hiking in nature are available in Srinakarin Dam National Park, which is also home to Pha Tad Waterfall. Its natural pool is suitable for swimming. Jok Kradin Waterfall, by contrast, is in Pilok Subdistrict, within Thong Pha Phum National Park. There, the water cascades over a 30-metre-high cliff. The two waterfalls offer different highlights: at Pha Tad, the natural swimming pool complements the hiking, while at Jok Kradin, the height of the falls takes centre stage.

E-Tong (Pilok Mine), a former mining community and now a major tourist attraction in Thong Pha Phum District, is also in Pilok Subdistrict. Here, you can focus on the history of a former mining town as part of your trip. Noen Chang Suek viewpoint is 1,053 metres above sea level; this elevation gives you a specific reference point for understanding the destination.

Temples, River and More Experiences

Wat Tha Khanun features a Buddha footprint, Phra Buddha Chedi Khiri and a Burmese-style pagoda on a hill. Near the temple, a suspension bridge crosses the Khwae Noi and offers views of Thong Pha Phum. The temple complex and the bridge appeal to different interests: one focuses on religious buildings and culture, the other on the river and views of the town.

Hin Dat Hot Spring is near Ban Kuimang in Hin Dat Subdistrict. It is a natural hot spring with a water temperature of about 45 to 55°C. A cycling route and a grass slide are also listed among the ten check-in spots at Vajiralongkorn Dam. These brief pointers add other named attractions to the selection without equating them with the national parks, waterfalls or cultural sites.

When looking for a holiday rental, you can start by considering which aspects of the district matter most to your trip: caves, waterfalls, the area around Pilok, the dam or cultural destinations such as Wat Tha Khanun. This lets you base your location search on the experiences you want to prioritise. For more information about places within the district, see Tha Kha-Nun and Chalae.
