Kijal offers two distinct reasons to take an interest in the place: at Pantai Penunjuk, picnicking and the possibility of spotting colourful fishing boats are among the beach activities; lemang and keropok lekor give the local cuisine a specific connection to the area. If you are looking for a holiday rental, you can first consider whether beach time or local specialities should play a bigger part in your stay.

Pantai Penunjuk: A beach picnic

Picnicking is a designated activity at Pantai Penunjuk in Kijal. There is a pavilion, a children's playground, information signs and a paved road. Colourful fishing boats are sometimes anchored on the beach. Picnicking is therefore a specific activity to include in your plans; the boats remain a possible sighting.

The playground is a specific feature that families can take into account when choosing a location. If you would like to include a beach picnic in your travel plans, you can consider Pantai Penunjuk when choosing where to stay in Kijal.

Lemang and keropok lekor

Lemang, rice cooked in bamboo, is a speciality of Kampung Bukit Anak Dara in Kijal. Lemang and keropok lekor are also among Kijal's specialities and are available at roadside stalls or at the resort. For a culinary perspective on the place, lemang—with its distinctive bamboo cooking method—offers a special connection; keropok lekor adds another Kijal speciality to the selection.

Nature enthusiasts will also find a variety of points of interest there: more than 150 bird species have been recorded at Kenyir Lake. The Terengganu Marine Park comprises four major island archipelagos: Pulau Redang, Pulau Perhentian, Pulau Kapas and Pulau Tenggol. Pulau Kapas lies about six kilometres off the coast of Marang. At Benteng Marang, visitors can walk, cycle or ride a motorcycle.

In Kuala Terengganu, Wan Man Island is home to the 23-hectare Islamic Civilization Park, an interactive exploration of Islamic monuments. It features 21 replicas of structures from Islamic world history. The Crystal Mosque is the park's landmark and also a new landmark of Kuala Terengganu. On the banks of the Sungai Terengganu, Pasar Payang sells batik, silk fabrics, songket, brocade fabrics and metalware; Pasar Marang offers fresh seafood, traditional Malay food and local handicrafts.

Another regional highlight is Bukit Besi's mining history. Its surviving traces include a former railway line, tunnels, accommodation, a tin plant, a factory chimney, an ore stockpile, and washing and processing facilities. Tasik Puteri near Bukit Besi was created by iron ore mining and is being developed as a recreational area.
