Gardens, extensive parks, an artificial lake and distinctive cultural sites define Putrajaya. When planning your trip, you can choose different focuses: nature and exercise, themed gardens, or architecture and history. The mix you choose will also influence what you may want to consider when choosing the location of a holiday rental.

Parks, water and green spaces

Taman Putra Perdana covers 62.4 hectares and is located at the highest point of Precinct 1. At the centre of the park is a time capsule that tells the story of Putrajaya’s beginnings. The park also forms a buffer between the natural zone to the north and office and commercial areas to the south and east. Its facilities include an herb garden, a flower garden, a jogging trail and a pavilion.

In Putrajaya Wetland Park, the Flamingo Pond and an observation tower are among the designated visitor areas; the park is located in Precinct 13. Artificial Tasik Putrajaya offers a different scale: at 650 hectares, the lake provides opportunities for recreation. The six-kilometre City Trail connects the waterfront areas of Precinct 1. The lake and its waterfront route thus offer a distinct point of reference alongside the gardens and parks.

The parks also differ in the activities they are noted for. Taman Wawasan in Precinct 2 is suitable for jogging, picnics and cycling. In eastern Putrajaya, between Precincts 14 and 15, Taman Rimba Alam offers nature trails, an observation deck and picnic areas. Possible activities there include orienteering, guided visits, mountain biking and birdwatching. When planning, you can weigh up a park with explicitly listed recreational activities against a natural area with trails and opportunities for wildlife observation.

Themed gardens and agricultural heritage

The ornamental garden area of Putrajaya Botanical Garden comprises 13 themed gardens. Examples include Taman Anggur, Taman Pakis, Taman Matahari and Bukit Palma. Also within the same botanical garden, Astaka Morocco Islamic Garden celebrates Moroccan heritage and architecture. Taman Saujana Hijau has a different focus: its three garden areas are called Bustan Inggeris, Bustan Oriental and Bustan Eropah.

Agriculture is the focus at Taman Warisan Pertanian, south of Precinct 16. The park extends over more than 14.4 hectares and is home to more than 170 tree species. It showcases the development of Malaysia’s commercial agriculture over the centuries. Its areas and facilities include an orchard, an herb and spice trail, rubber plots and an observation deck. With guidance from park staff, visitors can try agricultural activities such as tapping and processing rubber.

Penanggah Food Court is also located within Taman Warisan Pertanian in Precinct 16. More than 150 dishes are offered at 21 food stalls. Information about dishes and stalls may change. This offers a different focus from exploring the garden areas or learning about agriculture.

Architecture, history and exhibitions

Several sites reveal different cultural influences and historical connections. Masjid Putra is a landmark of Putrajaya and is named after Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra Al-Haj, Malaysia’s first prime minister. The design of Istana Kehakiman combines influences from classical Islamic architecture with Moorish elements and Western Palladian elements. Traditional Chinese garden design in the Lingnan style can be seen at China-Malaysia Friendship Park.

The 68-metre-high Monumen Alaf Baru consists of four interconnected sections. They represent Malaysia’s eras before independence, after independence, the present and the future. Putrajaya Landmark is also located in Taman Putra Perdana: it was the first monument erected to commemorate the founding of Putrajaya in 1995. These sites offer different points of focus—from architecture and garden design to the history of the place.

Putrajaya Story covers around 6,000 square feet and features more than 20 exhibitions under the theme “It’s Time to Discover Putrajaya Story”. Nasyrul Quran Complex includes an exhibition gallery and another gallery dedicated to the printing process. At Studio Wetland Putrajaya, learning is at the heart of the experience: this technology-enabled learning and experience park aims to promote environmental awareness and wildlife conservation.

Activities and suitable focuses

Putrajaya offers a range of options for active pursuits. The open-air amphitheatre at Taman Cabaran is suitable for children and visitors seeking leisure activities and enjoyment. Jogging, picnics and cycling are the main activities at Taman Wawasan; possible activities at Taman Rimba Alam include birdwatching and mountain biking. At Cruise Tasik Putrajaya, visitors can choose between an air-conditioned excursion boat for 70 passengers and gondolas with four or six seats.

A stay focused on garden landscapes and nature will be shaped differently from a trip centred on architecture, exhibitions or choosing a boat. Decide what interests you, then consider which location for your holiday rental suits your travel plans. If you would like to get your bearings locally, the Putrajaya Visitor Information Centre (I-Centre) is located in front of the government complex in Parcel B, Precinct 1. Check the centre’s availability before visiting.
