Pasir Puteh: Market, Water and History
Accommodation in Pasir Puteh
Pasir Puteh offers several distinct reasons to stay: a morning market, nearby natural attractions and memorial sites with their own histories. You can tailor your search for a holiday rental to what you want your days to revolve around—market life, swimming with the family or cultural history.
Market, Goods and Market Day
A government visitor description from October 2024 presents the Pasar Pendekar morning market in Kampung Guntong as a market held every Friday; at the time, it had already been running for more than ten years. The description gives its area as two hectares and says it has more than 100 traders. Goods on offer included traditional food, vegetables, fruit, fresh produce, clothing and ornamental fish. The market is 3.5 km from Pasir Puteh town centre. If Friday is important to your travel plans, check the market day again before visiting.
Waterfall, Forest and Stream
Jeram Pasu, a waterfall and forest recreation area in Kampung Padang Pak Amat, lies in the wider area around Pasir Puteh. Jeram Mengaji is nearby; its clear stream is suitable for swimming and family recreation. The distinction is clear when choosing between them: the waterfall and forest define Jeram Pasu’s natural appeal, while Jeram Mengaji focuses on its stream and swimming activities. If you are looking for time in the water together and family recreation, Jeram Mengaji is the right choice; Jeram Pasu offers a different kind of natural setting.
Memorial Sites with Their Own Histories
In Pasir Puteh town centre, the Tugu Peringatan Tok Janggut monument, erected in 2005, commemorates Haji Muhammad Hassan bin Munas, known as Tok Janggut. Wakaf Tuan Farrer had a different, practical role: the pavilion served as a rest stop and waiting place for passengers at an important road junction between Pasir Puteh, Kota Bharu and Machang.
After Wakaf Tuan Farrer was completely destroyed in a traffic accident in July 2007, a permanent replacement was built in 2010 based on the original design. The two sites have different points of emphasis: the Tugu commemorates a person named specifically, while the history of Wakaf Tuan Farrer can also be understood through its former function and subsequent reconstruction. The monument was built before the replacement structure.
