Al Khawr combines maritime impressions with a history dating back to the 18th century. Traditional wooden dhows lie in the harbour, and the Corniche invites you to take a stroll and experience the city at your own pace. Watchtowers and the Ain Hleetan Well tell another side of the story: keeping watch over ships and protecting an important source of water.

History by the Water

Al Khor was founded by the Al Muhannadi tribe in the mid-18th century. The Ain Hleetan Well was established in the 19th century, after a water source was discovered near the coast. Locals believed that the well’s water had healing properties—a traditional local belief, not a claim about any medical effect.

The watchtowers of Al Khor were used to observe ships and guard access to the Ain Hleetan Well. The Al Khor Towers were also built to protect the sea. Together with the dhows in the harbour, these historic and maritime sights give your stay a tangible connection to the coast.

The Corniche and Archaeological Insights

The Corniche is a place for a stroll and is also home to the Al Khor Archaeological Museum. Admission is free. Check the admission conditions before your visit. This lets you combine a walk by the water with a museum visit, without limiting the day to just one way of exploring.
