Nagawa invites you to experience nature, history, and regional cuisine side by side during your stay. The Central Divide Trail offers views from a scenic ridgeline, Fudo Waterfall lies in a forested gorge, and the post towns of Wada and Nagakubo preserve different traces of the past. Dattan soba adds a local specialty to these experiences.

Mountain Views and Hiking Times

The Central Divide Trail runs along a scenic ridgeline. From there, views extend to Mount Asama, Mount Tateshina, the Yatsugatake mountain range, and Mount Fuji. The panorama takes in both individual mountains and an entire range. If you are looking for wide-open views on a hike, this trail is a clear option.

The trail between Wada Post Town and Wada Pass is about 10.8 kilometers long. The hiking time is about 195 minutes downhill and about 230 minutes uphill. That is around 35 minutes more for the ascent than for the descent. Consider the direction when factoring the hiking time into your day’s plans; these figures refer to this route and are estimates.

Fudo Waterfall in a Forested Gorge

Fudo Waterfall is 16 meters high and lies in the Daimon-Omozawa Gorge in the forest. The access route branches off National Route 152 onto a forest road; from the parking lot, an approximately 20-minute walk continues on foot. You can divide the approach into two parts when planning your visit: the drive along the forest road and the walk that follows. As conditions on the forest road and at the barrier may change, check the latest situation before setting out. When comparing nature excursions, keep the different time estimates in mind: the route between Wada and Wada Pass has separate uphill and downhill hiking times, while the relevant figure for the waterfall is the approximately 20-minute walk from the parking lot.

Historic Buildings and Local Cuisine

At the Wada Post Town Honjin, a residence with a shingle roof weighted down with 1,633 stones has been preserved. This distinctive roof construction gives the site a striking architectural detail. The Nagakubo Post Town History Museum is housed in a building constructed as an inn at the beginning of the Meiji period, and historical materials are on display there. Wada draws attention to a single architectural feature, while Nagakubo brings historical materials together in a museum.

Dattan soba is considered a signature specialty of Nagawa, has a distinctive flavor, and can be enjoyed locally. The cuisine adds another way to get to know the area alongside its nature and history. If local dishes are part of your travels, Dattan soba is a specific reason to consider this as you plan. When choosing your vacation rental, you can first decide whether hiking, nature, architectural history, or regional cuisine will shape your stay.
