In Chigasaki, a bathing beach with sweeping views sits alongside places where you can discover the region’s history. From Southern Beach Chigasaki, you can see Eboshi Rock, Enoshima and Mount Fuji. There is also a garden with an old landscape, historic buildings and opportunities to learn about nature and culture. As you look for a vacation rental in Chigasaki, consider which of these sides of the town you’d like to shape your stay.

Beach Views and a Well-Known Photo Spot

Southern Beach Chigasaki is a bathing beach with views of three distinctive landmarks: Eboshi Rock, Enoshima and Mount Fuji. This gives the beach its own visual appeal without requiring a trip to any of these places. At the eastern edge of the beach stands the Chigasaki Southern C monument. It is considered a symbol of the beach and is a popular spot for photos. If you mainly associate Chigasaki with the beach and its views, this is a specific point of reference for planning your trip; if you’re more interested in history or green spaces, you can focus on other facets of the town.

Gardens, Blossoms and Riverside Walks

Takasuna Greenery preserves an old landscape of Chigasaki. In early spring, red and white plum blossoms appear there. The site combines a glimpse of an older landscape with a seasonal natural attraction. Takasuna Greenery is about an eight-minute walk from the south exit of Chigasaki Station via Takasago Street. Himuro Camellia Garden is also about a 20-minute walk from the station’s south exit. These approximate times offer two different points of reference for visitors who want to explore on foot from this station exit.

The Komayose River is another reason to spend time outdoors: you can walk around the Chigasaki City Museum and observe birds and fish. The museum gives children and adults the opportunity to learn about Chigasaki’s nature, history and culture. This lets you include both an interest in the surrounding area and a glimpse into the town’s history in your trip, though they need not be part of the same experience.

Historic Houses and Shōnan’s History

The former main building of the Himuro House is located in Himuro Camellia Garden. It is registered as a tangible cultural property and is recognized as a building that illustrates the development of suburban villas during the Shōwa period. The building highlights a particular historic style of architecture and living. Chigasaki-kan tells a different story: it retains the appearance of a historic seaside inn and is a rare surviving remnant of Shōnan’s former leisure and resort history. Film director Ozu Yasujiro regularly stayed at Chigasaki-kan.

Further historic details are connected with the former Wada House and the former Mitsuhashi House. The Wada House was relocated and reconstructed, and opened in April 1985. The Mitsuhashi House was designated an Important Cultural Property of Chigasaki City in 1971, relocated in 1972 and opened in 1973. Each date refers to the designation, relocation or opening of the respective house. Together with the former main building of the Himuro House and Chigasaki-kan, these examples illustrate different aspects of the region’s architectural and leisure history.
