Discover Hiranai through its natural attractions and distinct seasons. Tsubakiyama is covered with more than 10,000 wild camellias, which bloom red on the slopes from late April to late May. In summer, visitors swim at Tsubakiyama Coast, while Yogoshiyama Ski Resort offers runs for everyone from beginners to advanced skiers. When choosing a holiday rental in Hiranai, you can first consider whether blossoms, water, wildlife watching or ski runs will be the focus of your trip.

Coast, Camellias and a Resting Place for Swans

Tsubakiyama is designated as the northern limit of the range of wild camellias. The bloom from late April to late May gives spring here a distinctive natural theme. Tsubakiyama Coast offers a different seasonal highlight: it is recognised as one of Japan’s 100 most beautiful beaches and is used for swimming in summer.

Asashore Coast is also important for its natural environment. Located at the eastern foot of the Natsudomari Peninsula, it has gently sloping shores and is known as a resting place for swans. The birds arrive from Siberia around mid-October and can be observed until the end of March. Asashore Coast and the surrounding Natsudomari Peninsula are designated as a Special Natural Monument, “Kominato Swans and Their Resting Place.” Asamushi-Natsudomari Prefectural Natural Park extends across the Natsudomari Peninsula and the municipalities of Aomori and Hiranai; its designated coastal and natural attractions include Tsubakiyama and Asashore, among others.

Views and Guided Discoveries

Oshima can be reached by bridge from the tip of Natsudomari Cape. A lighthouse at the tip of the island offers views across the entire Mutsu Bay. Fishing and golf are also available around Oshima. Those interested in nature and local sights can book a tour with the Swan Guide Team. Tours of 30, 20 or 10 minutes are offered, covering Raiden Shrine, Matsushima and swan ecology. Depending on the weather, the route and duration may change.

Winter Ski Runs and Summer Activities

Yogoshiyama Ski Resort has runs for everyone from beginners to advanced skiers. A lift reaches the 180-metre-high summit in about six minutes. In summer, a super slide and a roller-ski facility operate on the ski resort’s slopes. Activities at Yogoshiyama therefore vary by season: winter focuses on ski runs, while summer offers the two attractions on the slopes.

Another place to explore is Hotate Hiroba, a facility in Hiranai. Visitors can taste Aomori scallops, see them and learn more about them. This adds an insight into a regional product to the nature and activity highlights.

Use the Season of Your Trip to Guide Your Accommodation Choice

The season of your trip is a helpful starting point when choosing a holiday rental in Hiranai: the camellias bloom from late April to late May, swans can be observed from around mid-October to the end of March, and Yogoshiyama switches between winter ski runs and summer operations.
