Flowers and walks

In the wider travel area, Denpark is a flower and greenery theme park. Around 3,300 species and 300,000 plants can be seen there throughout the year, alongside seasonal flowers. These figures give an idea of the diversity of the plant collection, while seasonal blooms bring different highlights throughout the year.

A walking trail about 2.5 kilometres long winds through a landscape surrounded by flowers and greenery. Directions are also available: From JR Anjo Station, take the An-kuru Bus on the clockwise or counterclockwise loop line to Anjo Kōsei Hospital bus stop. There, change to the South Line or Sakurai West Line and continue to Denpark bus stop. Check the latest bus information before travelling.

Culture and history in the wider travel area

The Jōzan-en complex opened in May 1996 in Izumi-chō, the birthplace of Ishikawa Jōzan. Its design is inspired by Shisen-dō, and it also evokes the world of Ishikawa Jōzan. The birthplace and the design reference offer visitors two distinct cultural points of interest.

Anshō Castle Park also offers a glimpse into history: visitors can explore sites associated with Anjo Castle. The former site of Anshō Castle is now a history park. The surrounding area has hills and memorial stones erected at the sites of former battles. During the Sengoku period, Anshō Castle, also known as Anjō Castle, was the residence of four generations of the Anjō-Matsudaira family: Chikatada, Nagatada, Nobutada and Kiyoyasu.

Another highlight is Anshō Bunka no Sato, a complex comprising the Anjo City History Museum, Anjo Municipal Gallery, Anjo City Archaeological Cultural Properties Center, Anshō Community Center and Anshō Castle Park. The History Museum’s permanent exhibition covers the history of the Yahagi River basin from prehistoric times to the present. Its exhibits include a jar-shaped earthenware vessel decorated with a human face, designated nationally as an Important Cultural Property.

Historic sites in the associated municipality

The associated municipality has brochures featuring historic walking routes through eleven different areas. When choosing a route, check its course in the city brochure. This lets you make walks a focus of your vacation without assuming a particular route.

There is a theory that 安城古城址 was the site of an estate belonging to 志貴荘 during the Heian period; the details are unknown. Another historical trail leads to the grounds of Honshō-ji. This temple site was connected with the Mikawa Ikkō uprising and is significant for understanding the layout of Jōdo Shinshū temples and Buddhist religious practice. Together, these sites offer different ways to explore history: from an explicitly uncertain early interpretation to the religious and political significance of a temple site.
