Safsufa offers several ways to plan your trip: Safsufa Fishing Park is opposite the entrance to the settlement; at Lueria Winery, a guided tour combines wine tasting with explanations; and an approximately one-hour off-road drive runs from the fishing lake at the entrance to the village to the ascent of Mount Meron. When choosing your holiday rental, consider which of these activities you want to shape your stay.

Wine, Getting Your Bearings, and an Off-Road Drive

Safsufa Fishing Park is opposite the entrance to the settlement of Safsufa. If you use it as a reference point, check your navigation details before setting out.

The Safsufa Off-road Experience offers an approximately one-hour drive that starts at the fishing lake at the entrance to Safsufa and continues across the terrain to the ascent of Mount Meron. The duration is approximate; before making plans, check whether the drive is currently available and what route conditions apply.

The Lueria Winery visitor center offers a guided tour with wine tasting. The tour explains the grape varieties and the wines produced there. Check whether the tour is currently available before visiting.

The offerings have different focuses: Lueria centers on wine and explanations, while the Off-road Experience focuses on the drive across the terrain and the subsequent ascent. This distinction can help you decide what to prioritize when planning your trip.

Archaeological Sites in the Northern District

In the broader travel destination of the Northern District, Tel Hazor and Tel Megiddo offer different archaeological highlights. A visit to Tel Hazor focuses on the upper city. The site includes Solomon’s Gate, a six-chambered gate with two towers dating to the 10th century BCE. Another historical period is represented by the Canaanite palace, used by the kings of Hazor in the 14th and 13th centuries BCE. This Late Bronze Age palace is considered the most elaborate in Israel and one of the most significant in the Levant.

Tel Hazor also preserves significant remains of an underground water-collection system, an example of sophisticated engineering adapted to the geography for water storage. The excavated shaft is 45 meters deep, with steps three meters wide cut into the walls of the vertical shaft. The fortifications are also remarkable: they are considered the finest example of their kind in the area stretching from southern Turkey to the northern Negev.

Tel Megiddo is one of three tells that preserve significant remains of cities with biblical associations and are closely connected with events from the Bible. Its Early Bronze Age temple complex is exceptional for the number of its temples, the continuity of its cult practices, and its documented ritual activities. A different view of the city is offered by its orthogonal—that is, right-angled—Iron Age city plan, which has few parallels in the Levant. In this way, a long tradition of worship and the layout of a city stand side by side as distinct archaeological themes.

Tel Hazor National Park can be reached from the north and south via Route 90 toward Ayelet Hashahar. Check your navigation details before setting out. When choosing your holiday rental, you can weigh Safsufa’s local offerings against the archaeological highlights of the Northern District as different travel interests. Plan according to the experiences you actually intend to include.
