Discover Kish: Coast, Beach Parks and History
Accommodation in Kish
Kish combines coastal activities and beach parks with unusual architectural and cultural landmarks. You can discover different sides of the island: time by the water, walks and wildlife watching, as well as historic sites with their own distinctive character.
Coast and waterside activities
The Kish cycling route runs along the coast. You can rent bicycles right next to Kish Recreational Pier. At the pier, you can take a walk and watch turtles, fish or seabirds. So you can explore the coast on foot, while looking out for wildlife, or on a rental bike.
Glass-bottom boat trips, pedal boats, rowing boats and water bikes are available at Kish Recreational Pier. This selection adds different ways to spend time on the water to a walk along the pier. If a rental or water sports activity will shape your day’s plans, confirm current availability in advance.
Parasailing is available at Simorgh Beach, Marjan Beach and Damon Recreational Pier. If you would like to include this activity in your plans, check current availability with the respective providers. These three locations provide specific starting points for including Kish’s water sports options in your travel plans.
Beach parks and other experiences
Kish’s major beach parks include Mir Mahna Beach Park, Simorgh Beach Park, Fisherman Beach Park and Marjan Beach Park. Simorgh Beach Park is on Kish’s southeast coast, between Jahan Road and Kish Cycling Trail. Mir Mahna Beach Park is described as the island’s largest amusement park. It is located on Darya Boulevard, one of Kish’s main boulevards; most of the island’s restaurants and shopping centres are there. The boulevard offers an additional landmark if Mir Mahna is one of the places you plan to visit.
Kish Dolphin Park includes a bird garden, a circus, a laser show, a saltwater aquarium and landscaped outdoor areas. This mix ranges from animal and aquatic attractions to performances and parkland. If you would like to include a show in your plans, check the current showtimes in advance.
History and distinctive architecture
Kariz Underground City has three aqueducts and 274 wells. The site also offers facilities for visiting Kish’s ancient aqueduct. These figures give a concrete sense of the historic waterworks: aqueducts and wells are complemented by the opportunity to see an ancient aqueduct.
The ruins of the ancient city of Harireh are in the centre of the island. They include the remains of a mansion with tiles from the Ilkhanid period (1256–1353), a public bathhouse and industrial facilities. Harireh is considered evidence of Kish’s former economic prosperity and of the trade the island facilitated between China, North Africa and Europe. The ruins thus combine surviving architectural traces with a historical interpretation of Kish’s role in trade.
Individual structures and objects also tell different stories. Kish Traditional Ab Anbar is a double reservoir in the Yazdi style, with two domes and five wind towers. The Green Tree is a 500- to 600-year-old fig tree that locals regard as sacred. And the Greek Ship ran aground off Kish and partially sank in 1926. Together, these examples show the variety of historical and cultural points of interest on the island: from the design of a reservoir and a revered tree to a shipwreck.
Which side of Kish will shape your trip?
If you are mainly looking for coastal activities and beach parks, the cycling route, pier, wildlife watching and water sports are highlights. Those with a stronger interest in architectural and cultural history will find specific historical themes at Kariz and Harireh, as well as further points of interest in the Ab Anbar, the Green Tree and the Greek Ship. This distinction can help you tailor your search for a holiday rental to the experiences you want to shape your trip.
