Forest springs, green hills and seaside experiences shape the diversity of West Lombok Regency. The region also features special cultural sites such as Taman Narmada and the annual Perang Topat. To help plan your trip, it is worth deciding first what you want to focus on: would you like to prioritise nature, with springs and hiking trails, are you interested in history, or would you like to explore the underwater world?

Forest landscapes, springs and trails in Sesaot

Desa Wisata Sesaot lies in a mountainous landscape and is surrounded by the protected Sesaot Forest. Numerous natural springs in Sesaot are fed by the surrounding forest. Visitor facilities at Desa Wisata include a jungle-tracking trail. If you are looking for a trekking route, Bukit Mangga has a route suitable for beginners. At Bukit Vetong, you can go cross-country cycling through gardens, rice fields and forest. Sesaot therefore offers a range of active nature experiences: a trekking route, a tracking trail and a cycling route.

PUREKMAS is a recreation area in Sesaot with clear, flowing water. It also has a clear, turquoise natural pool for swimming. These water-based experiences complement the forest and mountain scenery with a more relaxing way to spend time by the water. If you are looking for a holiday rental, the balance of activity and relaxation you want may help determine which area you choose for your holiday.

The sea, islands and underwater world

The marine experiences also vary considerably. Pantai Mekaki has a light-sand beach on the open sea, surrounded by hills. The hills behind the beach have previously been used as a launch area for paragliding. Teluk Mekaki is a dive site where manta rays can be found. At Teluk Belongas, you can dive and snorkel; hammerhead sharks and manta rays can be found there. Surfers visit Desert Point in Dusun Bangko-Bangko, Desa Batu Putih, Kecamatan Sekotong Barat, for its waves.

Gili Rengit is a popular snorkelling spot because of its rich marine biodiversity; the island is accessible by boat. At Gili Sudak, the coral in the clear water can be seen with the naked eye from a distance of up to about ten metres. Orong Bukal offers a different kind of nature experience: this place in Kecamatan Sekotong, West Lombok Regency, is surrounded by green hills and clear, blue-green water. Visitors can swim there, but access is only possible via a trekking route. This restriction is an important consideration when planning your excursions.

Historic sites and living traditions

Taman Narmada is an 18th-century historic complex modelled on Mount Rinjani. Visitors can explore historic buildings and experience a sacred spring there. Perang Topat takes place every year at Taman Lingsar and has been recognised as Indonesia’s national intangible cultural heritage since 2020. These two cultural attractions each offer something distinct: Taman Narmada combines historic architecture with a sacred spring, while Perang Topat is an annual tradition.

When looking for a holiday rental, it helps to prioritise the experiences that matter to you during your stay: forests and springs, historic sites or activities by the sea.
