Jember: The birthplace of Fashion Carnaval and regional discoveries
Accommodation in Jember
In the center of Jember is Alun-alun Jember Nusantara. Another cultural reference point is the story of Jember Fashion Carnaval: Dynand Fariz founded the event in 2003 on the streets of Jember in East Java, Indonesia. This founding story offers a distinctive perspective on the city’s culture alongside its centrally located square.
Experience culture in the wider Jember destination
In Arjasa, Desa Adat Wisata Arjasa offers flexible packages for a day, three days, or a week. They are designed for families, groups, and travelers with particular interests. The visitor program includes a cooking class where Sayur Gudug, a traditional local dish, is prepared. It concludes with a performance of the traditional art of Ta’ Butha’an. Archaeological and cultural themes can be found at other places in the wider Jember destination. Situs Duplang in Desa Kamal, Arjasa, preserves menhirs, Watu Kenong stones, and dolmens. The site is also presented as an edu-tourism destination where students can learn about history firsthand. Museum Lembaga Tembakau Jember is a themed museum and an information and education center about tobacco in Kabupaten Jember. Landscapes and waterside spots in the Jember destination
Agrowisata Gunung Gambir sits at an elevation of about 900 meters on the slopes of the Argopuro Mountains. Green tea fields and panoramic views of the hills define the landscape; the site’s history as a Dutch tea plantation dates back to 1918. Also on the slopes of the Argopuro Mountains, Agrowisata Boma Gunung Pasang is surrounded by rubber and coffee plantations. Together, these places represent contrasting agricultural landscapes: tea fields and views of the hills on one hand, and rubber and coffee on the other.
At the foot of Gunung Pasang is Air Terjun Tancak, an 82-meter-high waterfall in a pristine, refreshing natural landscape. Along the way, visitors can enjoy views of the coffee gardens of Gunung Pasang. Pemandian Patemon offers a different waterside setting: this bathing spot has clear water fed directly by mountain springs and is surrounded by green trees and cool country air. Wisata Citra Mandiri (WCM) also offers a bathing spot set in natural surroundings, with facilities for visitors. On March 20, 2026, Pemandian Patemon was reported to have swimming pools for adults and children, with daily opening hours from 07:00 to 17:00 WIB. Check the hours before visiting.
Nature and trip planning
Meru Betiri National Park is a protected natural area that extends across Kabupaten Jember and Kabupaten Banyuwangi. Sukamade Beach in the national park is a nesting site for endangered sea turtle species, including leatherback turtles, hawksbill turtles, olive ridley turtles, and green turtles. At night, visitors can watch sea turtles laying their eggs on the beach; local conservation conditions may vary.
The road route Jember–Ambulu–Curahnongko–Bandealit to the western entrance of Meru Betiri National Park is listed as about 59 kilometers, taking around 3.5 hours. Check current road conditions before setting out. When choosing a vacation rental, consider whether you want to center your stay around Jember’s central Alun-alun or the cultural and natural destinations in the wider Jember area.
