Discover Southbroom
Accommodation in Southbroom
Discover Southbroom through a range of nature experiences: a coastal walking trail leads around the headland, the Bushbuck Trail passes through dense coastal vegetation, and dune forest shapes the landscape at Frederika Nature Preserve. For families planning activities together, Eyles Park offers a green space for picnics and a climbing frame. Choose from different ways to spend your time: on the trails, observing nature or taking a break in the park.
Coastal paths and excursions
A coastal walking trail leads around the headland from Main Beach. From there, you can continue to Granny’s Pool or via The Outlook to Lewin Road. Another section of the trail runs south from Granny’s Pool, past Frederika Nature Preserve and on by the fourth tee of Southbroom Golf Course. These sections offer different routes: one goes around the headland with two possible ways to continue; the other heads south from Granny’s Pool, past the reserve and golf course.
The Bushbuck Trail runs from behind Southbroom Tennis Club through dense coastal vegetation. It has benches, permanent bridges and signage. The benches offer places to sit along the way; you can check the current condition of the facilities before your visit. The signage and bridges are as much a part of the trail’s character as its location in the coastal vegetation.
Nature and wildlife
The Bushbuck Trail area is home to indigenous plants and abundant birdlife, including a resident Crowned Eagle and a large flock of Crowned Hornbills. Blue duiker are also often seen there, as is a shy family of bushbuck; grey duiker are being spotted increasingly often. Sightings may vary from one visit to another, but these species give an impression of the area’s diverse wildlife.
Frederika Nature Preserve covers eight hectares of mature, untouched dune forest and borders holes 16, 17 and 2 of Southbroom Golf Course. The reserve is located on the Southbroom Coastal Walk. Visitors interested in both nature and golf will find a tangible connection here between dune forest and the golf course landscape. Southbroom Golf Club welcomes visitors.
Park visits and trip planning
Eyles Park is located behind Southbroom Tennis Club on Captain Smith Road. Families will find a green space for picnics and a climbing frame there. The park complements the trails and nature areas with another way to spend time outdoors together. Check the current condition of the facilities on site.
When planning your holiday, you can prioritise the experiences according to the kind of day you have in mind: the trail around the headland offers a specific coastal route, the Bushbuck Trail area focuses on vegetation and wildlife, and Eyles Park has space for a picnic and a climbing frame. These differences can help you decide what matters most to you in Southbroom. If you are looking for a holiday apartment, this can help structure your search: first consider which experiences you want to shape your trip, then choose accommodation to suit your plans.
