Memorial sites and historical heritage

The Case du Tirailleur is located in Thiowor, a memorial site honouring Senegalese Tirailleurs of all generations and backgrounds. A 2020 description recounts the house of Abdoulaye Ndiaye, built from straw with a sheet-metal roof, which is preserved in a small museum along with personal belongings, photographs and explanatory panels. The house and the objects kept inside give the memorial site a tangible, personal dimension.

The region’s historical heritage also includes the Ancienne Caserne de l’Artillerie in the commune of Louga, Louga railway station and the historic site of Toundou Diéwol. The ruins of Faidherbe military post are in the Linguère Department. These places add further names and locations from the region’s history to the memorial site in Thiowor.
