Singore is known for its forest landscapes and strong running scene. Singore Forest has numerous running and training trails; Bugar Forest stretches through the town. The wider destination of Elgeyo Marakwet also offers further landscape and cultural experiences.

Running in Singore Forest

The running and training trails in Singore Forest are frequently used by recreational runners. A travel report from 2017 also describes how many athletes do their long runs in the hilly forest. This brings together two running perspectives: regular recreational use of the trails and the long-distance sessions undertaken by athletes, as described in the report. For travellers who like to devote their days to active experiences in nature, this running scene makes Singore a clear point of reference. Check the current trail conditions before setting out.

Bugar Forest and a mountain biking route

Bugar Forest offers another point of reference. It lies two kilometres north of St. Patrick’s High School in Iten and stretches north through Singore to near Chebiemit. These landmarks give an idea of its course, while Singore Forest is particularly known for its running and training trails.

The nine-kilometre “Getting to Singore Forest” mountain biking route is located near Iten. The community-maintained route description states that it can be ridden in both directions; it also describes the route as easy and less popular. As route listings like these can change, check the details before setting out.

Elgeyo Marakwet in a wider context

In the wider destination of Elgeyo Marakwet, the Marakwet irrigation furrows show how water and landscape are connected. They channel water from the Embobut, Embolot, Enou and other rivers from the high Cherangany Hills down the steep escarpment slope to the Endo plains around Tot and the fields of Arror. On a guided visit, local guides can lead visitors up the slope, where they can see how a furrow channels water into an artificial canal. Make arrangements for such a visit in advance.

The high-altitude landscapes also have their own distinctive character: the Cherangany Hills reach up to 3,500 metres; afroalpine vegetation grows above 3,300 metres on the highest peaks. Torok Waterfall is 200 metres high and lies between steep, ring-shaped rock walls. These landscapes are quite different from Singore’s focus on forests and running activities.

The road and track routes Kapsang’ar–Kamelei–Sina–Chepkorniswo and Parua–Kochii–Sebit are recommended for hikes and mountain hikes in Elgeyo Marakwet. Both connect the highlands with Marich Pass (A1). If you include these regional routes in your plans, check the current track conditions locally.

Choose the right focus for your accommodation

When looking for a holiday apartment, it is worth first considering which experiences you want to shape your trip. If forests and running activities are your main focus, Singore offers a suitable starting point. If you are particularly interested in irrigation furrows, highland landscapes or the hiking options mentioned, include the wider Elgeyo Marakwet area in your search. This way, you can choose your destination based on your interests without conflating the regional examples with Singore.
